Ch-ch-ch-ch-CHANGES to DDPP

We’ve hemmed. We’ve hawed. We’ve compiled observations. We’ve taken scientific polls. We’ve reached some agreements about the direction we should steer this party boat. And here they are – in new easy to digest, candy-coated tablets:

1) SUNDAY DDPP STARTS IN NOVEMBER!

Both Jenns will be traveling fools in October, so we can’t do the Sunday thing quite yet. Kelley, Kelly & Toni will be taking over November Sundays and beyond!

2) DDPP WILL BE 1 HOUR LONG!

You asked for it! We listened! DDPP will be shortened by 15(ish) minutes and it will start at these new times so ladies can make it over after work:

  • WEDNESDAYS: 7pm (sharp!) – 8pm (sharp!)
  • SUNDAYS: 4pm (sharp!) – 5pm (sharp!)

The studio will still be open 15-20 minutes beforehand. So come on in and get stretched out and chat! But know that we will start RIGHT at 7 and RIGHT at 4 for the two sessions. If you’re running late – still come on in! Our doors are open!

3) WARM UP SONG!

By popular demand! Starting in November DJs will be asked to provide a warm-up song in addition to the usual cool-down song. Let’s start off with a little stretching before going full on.

4) PLAYLIST PREVIEW!

Whenever possible, we will post a link to the playlist for the upcoming DDPP right here, on our blog. If seeing what’ll be played helps you make your decisions – you’ll have that option. If you prefer to get your senses rocked by the surprise of it all – just come on by! If DJs are working hard on their mixes up until the last minute (which is totally cool!) it won’t be up. But know that DDPP is still happening unless noted on the site.

So yes! That’s what’s in store for November! Wednesdays in October will continue to be an hour and 15 minutes and start between 6:30-6:45. For those ladies who want to get on the DJ train for upcoming Sundays – send us an email with the date you prefer and we’ll get you signed up!

Thanks to all who provided feedback and inspiration for these changes! We hope you likey!

Mandate my ass? MANDATE MY ASS!!!

We had a wonderful bunch of veterans and newbies alike last night; and just one minute into the first song, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between them! That was thanks to DJ Fluffy Fingers (first time DJ?!!) master mix-making skillz!

She knocked us out with a one-two punch of her flufftacular fists! Then she gently carried our willing bodies in to her Lincoln Towncar of tunage and let me tell ya – the ride was smoooooooth. No turn signals needed – Fluffy Fingers made a mix that went over mountains of energy and through valleys of sweet dewey grass and we waved our arms wildly out the windows without stopping to see where we’d been and where we were headed. During the Girls Aloud remix of the Pointer Sisters’ “Jump” we reached a fever pitch of exuberance that hasn’t been rivaled in quite some time! Clapping! Stomping! Banging the sticky wooden floors with our fists! That’s what this mix inspired us to do!

Thank you DJ Fluffy Fingers for stroking our furrowed brows with your magic fluffy digits and waving away the pain. And now – a breakdown of the fight that wasn’t a fight at all: (TKO!)

SURVEY SAYS…

Hey ladies!

So if you’re on our email list, we just sent you this handy SURVEY about DDPP. Basically – neither Jenns can commit to running DDPP two times per week because of our nutty schedules. But we can’t decide if it should be on Wednesdays, Sundays or a whole new day we never even thought about. So if you have a minute – please help us decide by giving a little feedback!

WE’LL CONTINUE TO RUN DDPP on WEDNESDAYS THROUGH OCTOBER. We might add a weekend day to that if we get enough people who request it. But just until we figure out which magical day of the week works best for the most ladies.

Also – if you’re interested in running DDPP on another day – please let us know! We’d be happy to do it twice a week if we had volunteers to run it consistently on one day of the week!

We Always Hang in a Buffalo Stance…(do we, really?)

Ok – let’s get things straight. First and foremost, a first-time mix master DJ Stone Fox did us proud last night. She served up lots of hot new jams that our sticky buns soaked right up. She did us so proud in fact, that we were inspired to hang in a buffalo stance.

Wait. Did we, or did we not hang in a buffalo stance? Or a befuddled dance? We need a definition of terms.

Ding! Our friends at Urban Dictionary.com proffered these definitions:

1. Buffalo Stance

To stand with your arms tighly crossed looking over to side at somebody. This comes from the pose struck by Bruce Smith of the Buffalo Bills in the late 1980′s
Run Dmc often posed in a “Buffalo Stance”

2. Buffalo Stance

“Buffalo Stance” is a song by Neneh Cherry. (YES!)

It inspired a unique “dance” on the television show Dance Party USA; dancers would stand absolutely still for the duration of the song.

Have you listened to “Buffalo Stance” by Neneh Cherry? It’s totally rad!

3. Buffalo Stance

The way a prostitute stands on the corner is called the “Buffalo Stance.” Dumbass.
“That ho is standing in the Buffalo Stance.”

4. Buffalo Stance

To stand proud (with large testicles).
Mr. Moore stood in a buffalo stance on the playground.

5. Buffalo Stance

the way a buffalo stands
dude……dont be a buffalo

Hmmmm. The jury is out. Out to lunch and not making any claims as to which definition of the stance (other than #2) we might have partaken. I think we can rule out #4, but you never know.

Check out this hot video with miss Neneh Cherry to see how we rocked it.

AND! Now – the playlist that inspired a million happy thoughts:

Never Can Say Goodbye. nooooooononononono!!!

See that lovely blond lady swishing her pony tail hither and thither? Well enjoy the photo, because you won’t be seeing her nor her now shorter pony tail at DDPP Chicago any longer. How do we in Chicago feel about this change of events? The photo below says it all:

We are trying very hard to accept that our dear dear Megan Krejny is moving West to the land of 10,000 lakes and not taking us with her. Or… is … she? She’s taking our spirit – that’s for sure. And hopefully that spirit will wo-manifest into a shiny, new chapter of DDPP – Minneapolis!

We will miss Miss Megan and her AMAZINGLY, tenderly, thoughfully arranged mixes. Who could forget DJ Import – when she played all songs from outside the US and A? Or the night she took us back to the future with a history of American dance music starting with wax cylinders? DJ Century! More like DJ OF THE CENTURY! And let’s not forget Megan was the incredibly motivated soul who began our amazing Dance Song Database … (PS if anyone is interested in keeping this updated now that Megan’s leaving – please let us know!). And wait a second – who can forget Megan’s amazing moves? She’s a breakdancer! A strutter! A crab walker! I mean – the woman has moooooooves! And she busted many of them out tonight as she gave us another mix for the memory books as DJ Sayonara. See if you can guess the theme based on the name and the songs below.

Give up? Then you should leave. No seriously – get out. Har.

Megan – you rule! Thank you so much for brightening up our Wednesdays and Sundays and for all of the love and work and dedication you showed for this funny little event! We will always remember the times you paid in rolls of quaters and got here in rain, sleet, snow and total exhaustion to bust a move with us. Best of luck to you in all you do, Dr. Krejny! (oh yeah – did I mention Megan is like, an astro-physicist and shit? It’s true.) Thanks for the amazing send-off mix! It’s been a honor to sweat with you!

BIG LOVE,

DDPP CHICAGO

D-J Vu!

Nope. You’re not imagining things, dear reader. DJ Michelle Leslie Brown (aka DJ Re-Run) packed the house 2 weeks in a row with her jammin jammies. How does one create two amazing playlists twice in a row? Please tell us your secret DJ MLB. And we will sell it overseas for big time $$$. Neither Jenn Martin nor myself could make it last night (SO sadly!)! And I hear there was some Arrested Development banter before one of the songs? I’m doubly bummed!

Thanks to Kelley Clink for den mothering on such a sweatacular evening! And to DJ Michelle Leslie Brown for providing two back-to-back love fests on the dance floor! Word on the street is that there were a lot of new ladies in the house! Three cheers for spreading DDPP love to all who can handle it! Hope to see ya’ll again next Wednesday! It’ll be Megan’s last DDPP before she moves to Minneapolis – so come on our and support one of our most innovative DJs and veteran DDPPer if you can! And now – the playlist I will mourn not hearing live:

Boom! That’s hot!
