REMINDER: No DDPP Tonight!

Holidays galore is the case. Plus, Jenn B just got off a plane from Amsterdam and suffice it to say she’s got some sleeping to do.

Here’s a reminder of the schedule:

NO DDPP:

Turkey Time:

  • WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 26th
  • SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 30th

JC B-day Party Time:

  • WEDNEDAY, DECEMBER 24th (x-mas eve)

All dates note listed here will be DDPP as usual. We’ll be there. And…

WE WILL BE HOSTING DDPP NEW YEARS EVE: Wednesday, December 31st!

Ayee…ayee…ayee, ayee, ayee!

This week I witnessed a wealth of UNBELIEVEABLE dance moves:  the Shuffle Off to Buffalo, synchronized twirling, random bursts of jogging, and—oh yes—the Sexy Crawl (you rule, AllieKatt!)  All thanks (and all hail!) to the irrepressible DJ Muzak.

Don’t let the name fool you, this week’s mix was no trip to the grocery store.  It was one of those magical nights where the world outside the walls melted away.  We forgot all of our problems, we forgot where we were, hell, I might even have forgotten my own name!

We danced until our hearts pounded, we danced until our feet turned into lumpy blobs, and while Duffy begged for mercy, we begged for more!  And DJ Muzak delivered.  If only we could get THIS kind of muzak in all of our elevators:

 muzak

I mean, “Vibeology” for crying out loud—it just does NOT get any better.

 paula1

Two hours later and I’m still rockin’ the endorphin rush.  Go Paula?  Go Muzak!

Was it me, or was there a little more heat in the air tonight

DJ Michelle Leslie Brown keeps bringin’ it. That girl is Poison. With love like this on the dance floor, I just had to kiss and tell…you know, at the wishing well. Girl, do I wish I could get that song out of my head! I keep singing it and making up my own words. Pink Cookies in a Plastic Bag? Sounds tasty, but I don’t Mrs. Poppins will allow it. It’s all about Supercalifragulous…..to her. All I remember is hearing certain songs and getting in a zone, you know, that place we love to go to and just freak out with our fancy foot work and bootie shakin’. Yep, I was there and I’m pretty sure some other ladies were there too. Thanks for rockin’ our world once again.

Livin’ la vida Viva!

As I walked home amid a flurry of snowflakes on Sunday evening, two things became clear to me:
1) another Chicago winter has descended upon us, and
2) one of the best ways to keep warm is to dance!

snowdance

And this week’s walk home was toasty warm thanks to Victoria, aka DJ Vivalicious.  I don’t know about everyone else, but I discovered moves I never even knew I had!  Her melt-worthy mix of beats was so steady, so seductive, we couldn’t stop dancing–even during the cooldown!  So go ahead Chicago, do your worst–as long as we can rock out with mixes like this, we won’t even need boots:

vivalist

Heads up if you really want to recreate the winter-blasting action: the last song (Everything but the Girl) was replaced with Zap Mama “Afffection” and SexBomb was dropped.

Keep the music coming DJ Vivalicious!

Sunday 11/16 Playlist Peek

As promised, we’re going to post playlists if they come in early so you can know (if you’d like to) what tunes you’ll be bustin  move to at the next DDPP.

Peek at this ONLY if you dare! If you’d rather be surprised, by all means – look away! (we prefer the surprise…but you know, this is for the rest of ya :) )

HOLIDAY SCHEDULE

So – it’s that time again. Family. Traveling. Eating absurd amounts of butter disguised as casseroles. And seeing far more window displays like this than should be legal:

dejection

Like last year, we’re going to go easy on DDPP during this time – not because we don’t all need it - but because our travel plans are keeping us from being in the city for a few days hither and thither (and we’re guessing that might be the same for you). So behold: here’s the holiday breakdown (not the kind I’ll be having):

NO DDPP:

Turkey Time:

  • WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 26th
  • SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 30th

Religious Time:

  • WEDNEDAY, DECEMBER 24th (x-mas eve)

All dates note listed here will be DDPP as usual. We’ll be there. And…

WE WILL BE HOSTING DDPP NEW YEARS EVE: Wednesday, December 31st!

So bring all your ladies for a night of pre-party galore!

S.E.X.Y. Robot

Now that your circuitry is all abuzz, lemme break it down for you what all transpired last night. So Toni – aka DJ Tunerkin – had made what was sure to be a cubbie-love-fest mix back in those fleeting moments when the Cubs had a fighting chance to make it into the World Series. Alas – her ipod is a bit of a soothsayer, and said machinery decided it could not go on. Some songs would outright refuse to play, and others just gave us the slightest hint about what driving bass line and funky melody was to come before pooping out.

One of those songs we were teased with so cruelly (not by Toni, but by her unfeeling ipod), was S.E.X.Y. Robot. And last night, we got to enjoy it full-length, in all its robotic sexiness. DJ Tunerkin had plenty more where that came from. We had a helluva a time getting down to the other aural treats she provided. Check it out:

And Jenn Martin? You were sorely missed. Especially during OUR song – lucky #13 (how could you?!) Remember those days? I sure do. This was back when Jenn Martin (Hall) and me (Oates) didn’t have car trouble on the way to class.

3, 2, 1, AAHHHhhh!!!…

Ladies, I have a confession to make: I am a chicken.  You will never see me jump out of an airplane at 13,000 feet–at least not on purpose.  But thanks to Sunday’s mix and this expertly doctored photo, I’ll never have to!

skydive-1

This week DJ Sky Dive gave us the rush of a free-fall without the pesky risk of malfunctioning parachutes.  We walked on sunshine with our feet firmly on the ground (except for the occasional flying leap).  We punk rocked, pumped it up, and went CRAZY!  My highlight–a booty bustin’ classic from the 90s that had me screaming POCAHONTAS GO!  Free Willy.

skydive1You go, DJ Sky Dive!  You can push me out of a plane anytime you want to (musically speaking).

Yes We Can, Can… Did

DJ Elect – aka DJ Michelle Leslie Brown (aka Eulalia) prepared an absolutely joyous and beautiful mix to commemorate the history that was made in the last 24 hours. I know I was not alone when Jennifer Hudson’s voice made me teary eyed for the lead off song in class, nor was I alone when Sam Cooke did the same at the end of class.

Everyone who was in that room tonight shared something more than the typical DDPP magical connection that is dancing with ladies; we shared a moment as Americans. No matter how you voted and how you feel, it’s hard to argue that Chicago was and is the best city in the world to call home right now. May the echoes of the joy that was spread throughout this little corner of the universe reverberate with you for a long time to come.  And whether you’re in a grocery store check-out line, sitting in traffic or at DDPP, may that reverberation compel you to do a little dance …or maybe just smile. It’s a good time to be alive.

The Sweet Return of Sundays, Where the Grass is Green and the Girls are Pretty

Welcome back to the weekend, ladies!  And what better way to celebrate the return of Sundays than with a three-way, DJ that is.  DJs Lil’E, Dizzaster, and Darlin’ reunited to create a mix so smokin’ hot I’m still sweating!  That’s right, MF-ers, we DANCED.  The perfect balance of tunes took our energy to a whole new level, and made the whiplash totally worth it.  For those of you who want to relive the booty shakin’, head bangin’ bliss, or for those of you who want to torture yourselves by seeing what you missed, here’s the playlist:

And as if the return of Sunday DDPP weren’t sweet enough, new den mother Kelly V. hooked us all up with cupcakes!  I’ve got one word for you: FUNFETTI.  Mmm, funfetti….Thanks Kell!
