Eaten by the monster of…

Dance LOVE! Were you to have been at DDPP this last Wednesday, you would certainly recognize the form below:

monster of loveFor this my friends, is the monster of love. And we were all but consumed with it. And it, with us.

DJ Global Maestro (who in life outside of DDPP is also an actual DJ, in addition to becoming a physicist) shared a brilliant flash of her collection with us in that glorious hour of… glory. We were regaled with a wonderfully balanced mix of songs both familiar and obscure. And lucky for us, in making the mix Global Maestro put a cap on the beats-per-minute, leaving us all heart-attack free. (Let me tell you, red spandex pants or not, this DJ can dance to an astonishingly rapid succession of beats). Please take a moment to peruse the collection below, and ask yourself – “self – wasn’t that fun?” Even if you weren’t there. Because self, it was. Very. Even if you had indigestion from scarfing down two tamales moments before class began. Even if.

Thank you master, Maestro, DJ. You are welcome to share your dreams in the form of songs with us anytime. For even if you are a dreamer, you’re not the only one.

And Jeff, Jen B’s hubby, if you’re reading this, I believe you’ll agree I should not allow myself to listen to classical music while writing DDPP blogs ever again. Because it inspires me write like a schmuck.

Show Us Your…Tunerkins!

Who needs to shlep all the way down to the bayou when the Witch Queen of New Orleans can bring the magic of NOLA to Chi-town?  This year we chucked Mardi Gras in favor of Dimanche Gras, all thanks to DJ Tunerkin.  Her mix was sweeter than a paczki, smokier and more complex than a gumbo, with more essence than Emeril could himself could handle!  Enough cajun spice to burn down Paris, Tunerkin’s homage to the Big Easy demanded we turn up the music, sound the alarm, and get DOWN on it.  She even brought us beads:

but thankfully all we had to flash her was our moves!

And because Dimanche Gras coincided with THE OSCARS, there were even a few nods to the night’s big winner: Slumdog Millionaire!  Go Slumdog!  Go Tunerkin!  You take home the gold in my book!

Doowutchalike DJ Michelle Leslie Brown!

I have to admit, I was exhausted before DDPP tonight. I seriously thought my body had nothing to give. I’ve gotta say, DJ Michelle Leslie Brown, a regular on the DJ front, got my legs movin’. It’s amazing what kind of energy can come out in a room full of incredible ladies. Michael J and fam – you got it going on! That dance, right in the middle of our stretch created a whole new level of dance. The hips, the legs, the arms of everyone in the room were feeling just a little more energy. Woo! And then it just kept building and building. The only thing that would have made Chaka Khan better, was a pair of rollerskates and glow in the dark bracelets. The song by Black Sheep – too good! I know every lady in the house was gettin’ down to the last fast song, Every Little Step. There was a lot of clapping and a feeling of freedom in the room tonight. Keep it comin’ girl – Doowutchalike!!!!!!!

DJ Quelquefois is psychic! It was raining men and she wasn’t even here to see it

Jenn B aka DJ Quelquefois, was not in Chicago to witness her amazing feats as DJ. This of course comes with the territory of being DJ “sometimes” though. Putting this aside, she was able to predict the rain and plan a song accordingly – hallelujah! We were on fire for that one. This did not come unexpected to DJ tanner however, due to the fact that DJ Quelquefois and DJ Tanner have been riding the same wave length on the music front lately. Several of the same songs on both of our mixes, no swapping DJ song stories, and niether of us having put together a mix in over six months. C’est magnifique! It’s great to by insync. DJ Quelquefois, you must know that you had us “Dancing in Heaven…we never thought we’d ever get our feet this far -oh baby dancing. “Dancing in Heaven…we never thought we’d ever get our feet this far -oh baby dancing. Slow slow quick quick slow”. Thanks for the Girls Just Want To Have Fun songs. We danced our faces off, but it was great because there was no judgement or competition in the room for this dance off.

” Live, from Chicago: America’s number one dance show, Dance TV, is on the air”- I think we have the right to change that Dance TV to DDPP!

Among other memorable songs was the itch song. Oooooh baby, our feet were movin’ to that one. Love it. Thanks DJ Quelquefois. You made our night.

DJ QQF(Here’s the playlist. Sorry for the delay ladies! DJ QQF – aka JB)

A heavenly slice of L-apple pietunes

While 11 of us sassy ladies were gettin’ down to an hours worth of TOIGHT beats and booty shakin’ jams, today’s DJ was baking up something even more american than apple pie a’la mode – a new job!  DJ Lapple Pietunes urged Kell(e)y squared to share her well crafted mix with the other Sunday dance partiers.  We missed you, lady, and your mix had us hopping and thrusting for a full 60 minutes!  Thank you Lapple and God Bless America!

Pahty!

DJ Tanner once again in a Full House!

Thank you ladies, for lettin’ DJ Tanner entertain you with many of her childhood beats. She took a risk, and you offered support. You! Me! We! Dancing! DJ Tanner had to learn a lot in life. She’s had to learn how to relax in the face of school assignments, to deal with the controversy over why her two grown uncles lived in the basements of her house, and she had to deal with the Hot-and-Cold personality of her dear friend, Kimmy Gibler. If only she had a place like DDPP to Dance Dance Dance life’s little frustrations off and share her exciting day through fabulous dance moves. I know she thought, “There’s more to life than this”. And there is….It’s called Dance Dance Party Party where we love you ladies because you are you, but also because you come out and take a chance, allowing yourselves to be free of everything for an hour. DJ Tanner especially loves you because she can play a cheesy song like With You, and know that there is a part in all of us that kind of likes a song like that…even if we can’t 100% admit it – we can embrace it at DDPP. Bring it on ladies. Oh and three phrases that sum up DJ Tanner’s life in a nutshell: “How rude”, “Cut it Out”, “Have Mercy”- you can tell she didn’t dance enough. Enjoy the play list.

QQF

So Spring’s a comin, and in honor of it I’m making some chchchchchanges. Chopped off my hair, painted my nails for the first time in many, many years and changed my DJ name (née D J Bran). Starting tonight, I will henceforth be known as DJ Quelquefois (pronounced: kell-kuh-fwah) or for short – DJ QQF. But what does it mean? Well, if you know your french it means “DJ Sometimes” and if you don’t know your french it likely means “DJ Asswipe with the french name.”

And why would I rename the classic D J Bran (who makes you loose yer sh*t) to this new name? Well precisely because of nights like tonight. When a regularly scheduled DJ has technical issues or is stuck in traffic or is too freaked out to come in because there could be another Chicago cougar. Sometimes, these times, I am DJ.

But what does it sound like? Hot beats, sytheseismic urges and a gluttonous gob of novelty & kitsch. In other words, this:

DJ Quelquefois

But what does it look like? And why am I asking all sorts of questions pretending like maybe these would actually be questions that you, reader/dancer would care to know? Hmm. To the latter query, it’s because I’m watching the superbowl with one eye and eating chocolate mochi with one hand and not feeling creative enough to set this up better. To the first, superior question, I answer this: Kind of like a baby with hairy ankles.

Like a baby with hairy ankles and hairy pits and a whole mess of strawberry pubes.

imagesshave-20the-20baby-smallI got nothin else. Ok – I lied.
