Around The World in 60 Minutes!

Who needs jetlag when you have DJ Tua!!  This past Sunday we took a trip around the world and into all of our pasts with a mix that had our passports stamped with sweaty goodness!  All we needed was a slab of Nutella and a hot South African traveling companion to top off the experience!

We were stompin’, kickin’ off our Sunday shoes, twistin’, shoutin’ and cha cha-in’ all over the place!  We even had some fly girls shimmying across the flo’ MC Hammer style!

Check out the playlist (some songs will remain a mystery) and thanks for dancin’.

Women’s Herstory Month

That’s right – I said Herstory – roll yer eyes or educate yourself!

It is of course the month in which time stops, and every man, woman, child and stock photo of animal, bow in reverence to the gender that makes so very, very much possible… and better.

Our prolific and prized DJ Michelle Leslie Brown did this month proud with her super selects of tunes sung and/or written and instrumentalized by the fairer sex.

And our DJ upped the ante like she often does, but also playing NEVER BEFORE BEEN HEARD songs at DDPP. How does she do it? She consults the genius list of songs that have been lovingly compiled by our own DDPP members, herself very much included. With over 3,000 dance songs having been spun, this is nothing to scoff at. (quit scoffing!)

Instead, behold:

The studio thumped with the hoots, hollers and stomps of veteran DDPPers and newbies alike – an absolute hour of perfection.

And might you allow me the pleasure of also inserting a video here from one of my most favorite ladies on the list, who despite being as old or older than your own mother is still sporting white leather catsuits? And check out her backing band – sheesh! This song is for you dear reader lady. You are shining light. Happy March.

DJ L-Scream Sends ‘Em Home Sweaty

I don’t know about you, but Sunday’s mix a la DJ L-Scream was one helluva booty shakin’ trip down memory lane and back again!  Nothing gets a room of 18 chicks to belt out singing like a good Britney tune!  Crazy!

James Brown would have been proud.  I know I sure was.

Shakin Booties, Building Bridges

At this very moment of tip-tap-typing away, DJ Easy Bake is paving a path of multi-colored love across the midwest en route to Austin, Texas.

This ain’t no joy ride or weekend vacation. DJ Easy Bake is relocating to her beloved Texas for living life.

Those of us who were lucky enough to attend DJ Easy Bake’s final mix this past Weds at DDPP Chicago HQ, can attest that this red-headed tunestress will be missed.

We’re hoping Easy Bake misses us back…but luckily she’ll have DDPP Austin to which she can transfer her stylin moves and incredible mixes.

And we’re hoping the Midwest rubbed off on her a little bit in her years here… and it takes a good many years before she develops the attitude of a hardened Texan, which clearly this anteater has.

DJ Easy Bake, you helped us learn that a single lightbulb can perform delicious miracles. We hope Austin appreciates the lightbulb of your presence. Best of luck to you in breakfast-taco heaven.

Yummy Crumbz

DJ Crumbz left us all slack-jawed and upside down. Pretty much like this picture below, but sweatier and sans office accoutrements.

This was Crumbz inaugural mix – and you wouldn’t have been able to guess by her mad DJ skills. The woman hijacked her garage band and stuffed 21 expertly cross-faded songs into a jam and jelly packed hour of goodness that made us long for another fully baked session on which we could spread all our sweat.

If that ridiculous excuse for a sentence and attempt at analogizing didn’t do it for you – then at least this playlist certainly will.

What’s My Age Again?

Be you a high school teacher, lawyer, mid-level manager, journalist, grief counselor, film editor, holistic healer, copywriter or non-profit director (all of which were in attendance this past weds, by the by) – you are ageless from 7-8pm in our studio space.

But if we haaaaad to pin an age down, I’d say we’re all 12 years old – you know… just before the ladies get vicious… when everyone is friends, and doesn’t quite understand what being self-conscious feels like. When we’re not all bleeding through our jeans yet. The days when sleepover parties are still innocent-ish.

This website just about sums up the mood that DJ Gilldizzle conjured up with her mixtasty tunes. But for those of you who are at work and rightfully a bit fearful that this site is NSFW – here’s what I’m talkin bout:

Everyone’s clothes are on in this site. Fear not.

Here’s the delightful list of songs through which we all regressed back together:

You Can Slap! Chop! It To Me ANYDAY!

There’s a new Slap! Chop! in town and this one has no history of roughing up prostitutes!  She’s DJ SLAP! CHOP! and she can slap me around on the dance floor anytime she wants!  Intense, unique, rockin’ and rollin’ – we had it all on Sunday!  From such classy tunes as “These Boots Were Made For Walkin’” to Prince’s “Darling Nikki” – a first for a DDPP playlist, we were flailing and stompin’ all over tarnation!

The Whole Shack Shimmies

…cause everyone was movin’ around and around and around and aroooouuuuddd!!!

Wednesday night’s class was nothing short of a FUN LOVIN’ DANCE SHACK courtesy of DJ Broadface! On a random google image search for “broadface” this amazing image surfaced which in a way really summed up the native and tribal vibe that came over the women I had the pleasure of dancing with.

It was sweaty, people were stompin’ and a mind-boggling feeling of unity and comradery was shared by women and dancers alike.  DJ Broadface, you can host our pow wow anytime!

p.s. Thanks for the Meatloaf.

Booty On the Brain

There were booties rockin’ everywhere tonight, for reals.  As always, thank you ladies for coming out, getting crazy, and putting up with a Pink Floyd polka!

Big Love,

DJ Dizz
