Ballroom BLITZSsssnake!

Before you read another sentence – you should reward yourself for being alive by watching THIS:

Hey – nice job! And now you should reward yourself for being so goddamn lovable by getting a free download of this fantabulous mash-up (also known as song #14 from DJ Ssssnake’s mix below).

So Lucy, what in the heck hell happened last night? I’ll fill you in. DJ Ssssnake created a universally magnetically attractive orbit around the entire dance studio in starting and ending her mix with Magnetic Fields tunes (last one as a cover by Chicago’s own Kelly Hogan). Substitute the earth below for 4057 N Damen and you get the idea:

She then proceeded to pummel our tushies with an uber eclectic mix of tunes that both tickled our amygdalas and delighted our frontal  cortexes with novelty and panache. By the end, the entire lot of us had shape-shifted into DJ Ssssnake worshippers. And we were charming – much more so than the usual slimy scaly numbers you see in the movies. We were like a hoard of soft and sweet crocheted friendly snakes who just wanted to slither all across the floor.

Us ladies were looking for joy and we found it. We were trying to get our rocks off and we rocked it. We were hoping for introductions to Mistadobalina Mista Bob Dobalina and we got real damn familiar-like with the enigmatic sir. And all of this, because of one slippery DJ. ThankSsssnake!

Big N Sexxy

Give it up for our very own DJ Sexx Frosting, who happens to be glowsticking her booty off right behind Kid Sister (along with a blurry DJ Ssssnake) in the new video for Big N Bad!  Check it out ladies:

You go girl!  Way to do DDPP proud.  Come back soon–we miss your frosty moves!

And happy (belated) birthday!

Oh Dear? Oh DAMN!

Dear Internet,

Has anyone seen my heart?  I think it jumped out my chest last night, some time between songs four and five, and by the end of DJ Oh Dear’s re-donk-ulously amazing mix it was halfway to Tijuana.  It was just so excited you see, and so happy, but it’s been missing for some time now and I’m afraid it’s up to no good…

If you weren’t at the studio last night, you missed out.  Not only was DJ Oh Dear’s mix masterful, it transcended the chaos of BEING FILMED.  Last night someone from WCIU’s morning show came to interview us, because we are going to appear on an upcoming episode!  Exciting, no?  And a little scary. At first we felt like Oh Dear-in-head-lights.  Thankfully DJs Tanner and QQF were there to take point, and once DJ Oh Dear’s beats started up (and the lights got a little dimmer) we all went bananas. We’ll let you know when to tune in, so that you may see yourselves in all your goddess glory! Thank you everyone for participating/putting up with a little paparazzi.  I can say without a doubt that no matter what (even though I was wearing my Jon Lee’s karate tshirt), we all looked better than this:

But enough about that, let’s talk about DJ Oh Dear!  From Kanye’s wonderment to David Bowie’s pressure, last night was one of the best times I have ever had on the dancefloor!  I’m telling you, that mix had some kind of super-magic.  Under DJ Oh Dear’s spell we were harder, better, faster, and stronger.  She had the power to wash away our fears, and transform us into maniacs!  Such is the beauty of DDPP.  Though I only met some of you for the first time last night, I had the feeling (as I always do), that I was dancing with all my friends.  It continues to change my life, every single week.  Ladies, thank you for being you, for coming out and sharing your positive energy, your enthusiasm for dance, and your running man spirit!  Now let’s hear it for DJ Oh Dear!

And let’s also hear it for Toni, aka DJ Tunerkin, who shlepped all the way back up here from Indy to dance with us!  Welcome back Tunerkin!  When you’re gone, we feel like this:

An Opportunity to Shake It…

beyond DDPP!

We know you love dancing, otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this post!  Well, here’s another chance for you to shimmy.  Regular DDPPer Pamela is part of real live Go-Go group called The Revelettes, and they are looking for more ladies!  Here’s some info on the troupe:

The Revelettes are a sometimes campy, sometimes vampy, always flirty 60’s style go-go troupe. We borrow the moves, ‘do’s, and get-ups that distinguished the go-go scene in its heyday and mix in the musical variety and contemporary sensibilities that keep us relevant and captivating to today’s audiences. The Revelettes have performed on the rock stage for drag-queen punk rock shows, on the theatrical stage for feminist cabarets, on the runway for fashion fundraisers, and on the rink for the roller derby. And we don’t forget the children: elementary-school benefit coordinators know how much children love shiny things and happy beats. The Revelettes’ smart, innovative choreography and exuberant energy can take an event like any other and make it all go-go-licious and sparkly!

We perform to music from Tina Turner, The Pipettes, Nancy Sinatra, Chubby Checkers, The Trashmen, The Go-Go’s, Link Wray, Los Straitjackets, The Ramones,Shirley Bassey, The She Creatures, Blondie, The Shangri-Las, and much much more!

AUDITION INFO
The Revelettes are expanding our gogotastic group of groovy gals. We’re looking for women who can’t get enough on the dance floor and jump at word of a hooping, hula or hip-hop class. While some dance experience is recommended, candidates need not have extensive performance histories. We pride ourselves on having reliable, collaborative, and savvy heads on our shoulders, underneath our enormous beehives!

Our two-part audition will take place the last two Mondays in August. (8/23 & 8/30) Interested women may contact us and must register in advance.

ENRGetic!

Was your Saturday night a little something like this?:

Followed by this?:

If so, Sunday morning probably felt like this:

And even not even this could get you out of bed:

Don’t worry, DDPP Chicago has got the cure, and this Sunday (for the first time!) we cracked open a BIG can of it: the mix-masterous stylings of one DJ ENRG!  (Her actual initials, if you can believe it!  Of course if you were there, you can.)  No oops about it, DJ ENRG (aka the original Hobo Humpin Slobo Babe) bang bang shot us up with so much of her name sake that we even made walking look spritely.  The sweat was a-pourin’, the booties were a-poppin’ (as was the lip gloss), and the hips were dirrrty.  About halfway through, one woman exclaimed “I think she’s trying to kill us!”  A half second later song number 9 started up and my head exploded.  It was a noble death, the way I’ve always wanted to go.  Thankfully I was only buried 3 feet deep, and I managed to claw my way out in time to finish the rest of the mix: a blurry, euphoric memory spun entirely out of cotton-candy.  And now ladies, I give you the mix that dipped deep into our cellular makeup, exited atoms we didn’t even know we had, and supplied us with a whole new level of kinetic currency–with which we purchased joy:

Oh yeah, that IS right.  Now if only we could figure out how to bottle DJ ENRG’s essence:

We’d feel like this forever:

DDPP SUNDAY is ON – TODAY!

The only storm we care about today is the one we’ll be dancing up in a few hours. Our Summer Sunday DDPP is ON today – so get out of your hot apartments and into our air conditioned studio to have a calorie-scorching blast and get yer sweat on… which will conveniently dry when you get back to your hot apartment and provide a lovely natural form cooling.

Hopefully this feller won’t be on your couch when you get back home.

DJ Rendezvous DDPP debut

DJ Rendezvous did not disappoint with her debut DJ mix. She definitely made all the ladies prove that nobody’s got nothin’ on us right off the bat and she ended with extreme ways never wanting us forget how extreme her mix was throughout the night. Every song was heart pumping euphoria with no time for dilly dallying in between. It was a true blue mid week mutha cluckin rendezvous.

You want a water break during this mix? Forget about it. The moments in which your heartbreak could come down were scarce. It was a rendezvous with scarcity.

DJ Rendezvous, you put the electricity in the air tonight (just like this hottie anchorman) at DDPP and we love you for that. You can rock our world anytime you want. We welcome you with open arms and handshakes. Well done lass.

You Down With MLB?

Yeah you know me!

People of the internet, last night marked DJ Michelle Leslie Brown’s 28th mix (the database lied to me).  Which means two months from now will be her dirty THIRTY!  But I simply can’t wait until then to celebrate:

Happy twenty-eightsies to us! We’re the lucky ladies who have benefitted from each and every one of these soulful, sweat-inducing, COMPLETELY ORIGINAL mixes.  That’s right, DJ MLB has yet to recycle any song that’s been used at DDPP; which, if you think about it–oh, wait, there it goes.  Yep.  You just blew your mind.  In fact, I might just have to start calling her DJ Quickdraw.  I heard song number 7 two days ago and thought, “hey, I should put that on my next mix…”  This proves that DJ MLB is psychic.  That, or she’s watching us…

At the end of the day, though, I don’t care!  If super-spyware gets us mixes like last night’s, break out the night vision goggles.  DJ MLB, you have continued your tradition of getting me to dance funkier than any other DJ.  Somehow you know exactly what will make me spazz to the max!  And for all you women who weren’t there last night, here’s what you missed: a good old fashioned DANCE BATTLE.  Which I lost due to DJ AWOL’s mad hoe-downing skills.  Time to start training for the rematch–Rocky style.

And what song inspired us to hoe-down?  Number 12 of course.  Check it out!

Take our country’s birthday off! We are.

No DDPP this Sunday ladies! In case you missed it – our Sunday summer schedule is in full effect. That means 1 Sunday per month through the end of September. Our one and only July DDPP is July 18th.

Til then – be safe around all things explosive. And hope you and your kitty have a wondrously watermelony 4th!

DDPP in Daily Candy!

Internet, we are spreading the word of our miraculous dance party throughout the media like creamy, processed peanut butter.  And the results are equally delicious! (with much fewer grams of sugar…) But we know you’re in the mood for sugar today, (this is a day that ends in ‘y’, right?) so check us out in Daily Candy!   You will be rewarded with a photo of one of your den mothers’ posteriors.  Talk about sweet!
