I know what you’re all thinking after reading that title- tell me something I don’t know, amirite? How about this nugget? DJ Lady KStud’s playlist made something happen to me that has never happened before. Her playlist drove me so close to the brink of dancing insanity that…I got sweat…IN MY EYES. It burned, I tell ya. It burned real bad. But not as hot as her playlist burned. Take a look for yourself:
Now, if anyone knows our own den mother KStud, they know that she is, in fact, too funky for words. So let me show you in pictures instead. Exhibit A:
You don’t think it could get any funkier, do you? How about a little peek at Exhibit B?
That’s right. It DID get funkier! And now you’re probably all “Yeah, but I bet she can’t dance.” But what about this?!
Still don’t believe me? Feast your eyes on this video. (And let this dude’s frequent pelvis thrusts remind you why we keep our operation women-only.)
She’s a one-woman non-stop dance machine. I’m pretty sure that Bubba Sparxxx wrote “Ms. New Booty” about her. And there’s definitely no gettin’ over her OR her playlist from yesterday. Keep foggin’ up those studio mirrors, girl.

When you’re having a hard day…when you are running late for everything…when you miss your friends…when you need a JOLT of energy…when you feel like you need a nap…??
SCREW IT ALL AND COME TO DANCE DANCE PARTY PARTY!!!
The women, the collective energy, the mad beats, the hoots and hollers and the surprise guests will wipe it all away! Promise!! Last night was a perfect example of how an hour of dancing in this unique judgement-free, awesome lady-laden zone will transform your mind and body!
Den Mother Catherine – AKA DJ Ssssnake – took us on an incredible, life-rejeuvenating journey that none of us will ever forget! I mean…if she calls herself a Ssssnake, I must overrule this and deem her the MOTHER OF ALL SNAKES….Our own DDPP Medusa!! Am I right!?
The venom that infected all 10 of us made us wOIld, sweaty, yelping with glee and making funny faces. If you need an expert opinion on what it may have been like ask the PRO – Steve Irwin (beloved and belated Aussie adventurer). Only the first minute of this vid is necessary to get a GLIMPSE of the vibrancy and illumination we all received from DJ Ssssnake. GOD I love the way he pronounces SNAYKE!
The cherry on top of our blessed evening was a surprise visit from one of our FOUNDING Den Mothers – Jennifer Brandel! A little dose of home goes a long way.

Wednesday night’s DJ told us that though she didn’t plan it this way, her mix (her very first!) ended up telling the story of one lady’s night out. First of all, let me tell you that if this is the way DJ Mizfit Toyz goes out, I want to find a way to her island like immediately. Because let me tell you the kind of evening her playlist had us imagining….
It all got going with the warmup song, you know, like you might listen to while getting dressed to go out on the town. So now that you’re lookin’ so fine, you meet up with some gal pals for cocktails (‘cuz you’re classy). The music’s cool and you did remember to bring your dancing shoes so, what the heck, you decide to check out that club with the cute guys or gals standing outside. Soon enough you’re inside and all of a sudden it’s OHMYGOSHINSANITY on the dance floor. You find yourself flinging yourself around the room feeling like the amazingly sexy woman that you are, because all of the music makes you feel so strong and competent and happy about everything. You feel like the grown-up version of this girl:
And then it’s the wee hours of the morning and your friends, though lovely, bailed a while ago, so you catch a cab. Miracle of miracles, that awesome Florence & the Machine comes on the car stereo and your driver agrees to put it on repeat because otherwise he just KNOWS you’ll act like this kid does at 2:11 in:
So the kind cabbie, eager to get his friends on the phone to tell them about the crazy (awesome) lady he just drove home, waits for you to get safely in your building. Roommates gone, you turn on that Tweet song as you’re getting ready for bed–yeah, you know the one–and let’s just say you tuck yourself in all special-like.
Oh My, DJ! You are welcome to bring your special brand of DJ magic back to our studio anytime!

Once upon a time I was seeing a guy who didn’t like rock ‘n’ roll. What the hell was wrong with him? What the hell was wrong with ME? He didn’t like Joey, he didn’t like fun, he didn’t like the Ramones so he had to leave home!
(Apologies for the R word in the lyrics, by the way.)
Anyway, I knew he was No Good. He’s gone and now I’m Happy and I can Whip My Hair anytime I want to any music I want! And all he can do is say I Can’t Get Next to You!
But seriously, DJ Cake or Death had us sweatin’ up a storm in a studio that was as hot as an oven! We felt like our Hearts were on Fire! I had sweat in my EARS fer cryin out loud! So our choice was clear! Dance or Die? We choose Dance! Cake or Death? We choose Cake! And Dance!

The heat wave may have broke in the city of Chicago last night, but nobody told DJ O’Hal Yeah!! One of our veteran DJs and glory makers hit the DDPP sound system with a shot of Whitney, a welcome dash of Tiffany, a puff of Snoop Dawggie Dawggness, multiple mash-up body slams from Girl Talk and then sealed the deal with a signature Madonna power jolt that gave me GOOSE BUMPS, people! …Sweaty hard goose bumps.
We boogied around the room “running just as fast as we can,” and then put our backs into it. It was an awesome class filled with incredible women young, old and REAL young. I walked into class feeling a little heavy and tired and at about 7:58pm I was jumping non-stop, sweating happily and screaming AND I FEEL LIKE I JUST GOT HOME! Thanks for the Ray of Light DJ O’Hal Yeah! You killed it.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Rolling Stones! The music of Mick Jagger, Keith (Keef) Richards and everyone else in the band has made this Fairy PunkMother Happy over and over again, and gotten her through times when she was Shattered and not getting any Satisfaction!
I grew up listening to the Rolling Stones. Back in the day, I heard “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” on the AM car radio and there was….something….about it that drew me in. I didn’t understand what the song was about, but I picked up on the frustration it conveyed. Even then I liked a little angst in my music. And I was won over.
I have other memories of the Stones from my early years. I remember wondering what was behind the zipper on the album cover for “Sticky Fingers.”
OK, NOW I know what was there. Remember, this was a long time ago.
And I remember seeing performances like this.
Sigh…. Mick had such a nice booty and Keef was not yet ravaged by drugs.
This performance is from their 1972 American tour. This was no ordinary rock band tour. If you don’t believe me, listen to this guy. This is by Robert Greenfield, who wrote about it in S.T.P.: A Journey Through America with The Rolling Stones. It was such a big deal, Rolling Stone was thinking of having Truman Capote, a real writer, write about it. This is what happened:
“After partying heartily with the Stones, (Truman) Capote decided to forsake writing about them. Instead, he discussed his adventures at length with Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show. Even now, it’s hard to find a more fitting metaphor for what this tour was really all about. Not sex and drugs and rock ‘n’ roll but the initial acceptance of this music by mainstream America, not to mention a large segment of the jet set as well. In terms of celebrities using one another amidst a feeding frenzy of massed media, the 1972 tour marks the beginning of the modern era in rock.”
The beginning of the modern era in rock. Wow. That’s pretty accurate. Finally, for better or worse, “mainstream America” was taking notice of rock. Because of The Rolling Stones. All this, the media frenzy, the music, the performances, made a lasting impression on a young Fairy PunkMother back when she was just a budding rock princess.
So let’s jump ahead several years. I am still listening to The Stones. Now I have DDPP as a place to go, to dance and vent and celebrate. I will NEVER EVER forget playing these songs at DDPP and sharing them with you womens! I love the “No Judgement” and “Sing Along at the Top of your Lungs” rules! It felt EFFING GREAT to just let it go and rock out! Thanks so much to DDPP for creating this environment and to the womens who were there singing and dancing along with me!
This is my long overdue love letter to Mick, Keef, Brian (RIP), Mick, Ronnie, Charlie, Bill and everyone else involved with The Rolling Stones, and also to DDPP. I am so grateful for this music and you awesome women I can share it with!
Her response to an interview question for the Little Miss Pageant in 1983 about what she wanted to be when she grew up? "Wonder Woman." Her instinctual reply when you ask her how she's feeling that day? "Pahtyin'!" One of the best things she does all week? "DDPP." Kelly Peraino. Dancer, heroine, pahtier.
Catherine Carrigan
A shooting star leaping through the skies like a tiger defying the laws of gravity. An American aquarium drinker. Gifted, all natural and burstin' the seams. Can't - can't - can't - can't control her feet. Wants to see movies of her dreams. Wants to live with common people like you.
Danielle Holtz
DJ Hotdish was raised in the land of 10,000 lakes. She enjoys a good cup of coffee, long bike rides, suspenseful fiction, and shaking it on the dance floor. In the words of Maurice Sendak, "Let the wild rumpus start!"
Amy Kelley
By day, Amy is a 3rd grade teacher. By afternoon/ evening/ night (and sometimes even at school), she is a dancing machine! Formerly DJ Muzak, now and forever DJ Sex Frosting, Amy has been known to crawl around the dance floor on all fours acting like anything from an alley cat to a she-wolf, and even danced her way into a Kid Sister video- making her officially big n' bad like Tom Hanks and MJ.
Unity Ostercamp
By day is a college admin, by afternoon- wanna be fashion advice giver, period piece movie lovah (Jane Austen 4 eva yo!), Chocoholic (yep it is making her fat), dancer in the dark (oh & in the light), & vat of useless data/pop culture. DJ U.N.I.T.Y. (who you calling a bitch?!?!?!)
Allison Wolcott
Allison (aka DJ AWOL) entered the world in a grand jeté and has not yet stopped boogeying down. She writes, she sings...she's better than Cats. Except real cats. Real cats win every time.
Co-Founder and Den Mother Emeritus: Jenn Martin Jenn Martin can be found doing just about anything. With a background in psychology, construction, non-profit, arts, urban planning, & real estate, it's nobody's guess what she will be doing next year, even next month. Her number one passion: traveling the world. Her main squeeze goes by the name: Bones, her favorite day: Halloween, and her favorite junk food: gummy bears and cheese fries (but not together because the sweet & salty combo is a no go). Coming from a Gemini, this is quite funny. Her music is eclectic, as is her dance background (she's taken just about every dance class imaginable). One of her fav songs: Apeman, by the Kinks.
Co-Founder and Den Mother Emeritus: Jenn Brandel Prior to her multiple personality reintegration, Jenn Brandel lived lives as an IQ test developer in Quebec, a grape farmer in Tasmania, and low-low-powered movie producer in LA. Currently she finds herself mostly in Chicago and mostly as independent producer for public radio. She has an acute fear of commitment except for all things DDPP. Her dance moves have yet to be classified - as they straddle the line between graceful and seizure. She wants quite sincerely to win at life, but is still a bit foggy about what that actually means (and entails). For now - she'll settle for all-time champion of Connect 4.
Den Mother Emeritus: Kelley Clink
With a booty that won't quit and a brain averse to choreography, Kelley Clink once left a hip hop dance class in tears. Thankfully she discovered DDPP, and ever since then all her eye watering can be attributed to joy.
