Completely And Utterly SASSIFIED!

To celebrate DJ Sassybrass’ greatest hits mix, she promised us that she wouldn’t stop until we were sassified! And you know that girl doesn’t break promises! In fact, her mix didn’t stop until I had most likely pulled a muscle in my back from all the strokin’. And that was just the warm up song! Now, I don’t want to make this whole post about strokin’, but…watch this ENTIRE video. You won’t be sorry.

I don’t know about you, but I like to learn something new every day. Things I learned from the Strokin’ video: Strokin’ can be many things- swimming laps, rowing, a claymation monster rubbing itself, or just plain old awkward semi-slow dancing. Most important thing I learned from the Strokin’ video: every single lady at DDPP last night clearly qualifies to be a dancer in that video. Bust out your denim cutoffs, everyone!

But enough about Strokin’. Let’s talk about DJ Sassybrass.

Sassybrass clearly knows how to shake it, and you’d think she never needed any help in the confidence department, but in her own words: “On this, the night of my 11th “Sassyversary” mix, I just want to say how grateful I am for the Dance Dance Party Party in my life. It has changed my outlook, my inlook, my bond with womenkind, and was so instrumental in my falling in love with myself…and of course, helped me increase the temperature when I’m droppin’ it. ” That’s all we, and every other den mother past and present around the world, have ever wanted and more for all of you fabulous dancin’ ladies! I’m about to get all verklempt up in here! Must…wipe the tears away…and post…playlist…

Now THAT’S a mix full of greatest hits! In the words of one of her friends who was there for the rainstorm of men, among other things, “You mixed a mean mess of madness.” Not only does that sentence hit my soft spot for alliteration, but I could not agree more wholeheartedly. I would like to personally thank DJ Sassybrass for giving me the ab workout that I’m always too lazy to do on my own with all of her sexy, hip-shaking hits. And from what I glimpsed around the room last night, none of you were scurred to shake it either! Unlike this cat, who has also (according to the title of the video) apparently been…sassified?

Either way, I know that in my book…

And the Winner is…

The Oscars are just around the corner and I, for one, am superexcited to eat punnily-named theme food like Hamburger THE HELPer, Parmesan and ARTISTchoke dip, and Moneyballs (these are meatballs the size of baseballs), at a viewing party!

This meal brought racial equality to the South!

However, as much as I love food and puns, (and I LOVE these things) I may love dancing even more. DJ Flaming Cheese was right on time with her songs-from-movies playlist on Sunday. So many great songs and lots of surprises!

Revelations during this mix:

1. Da Butt is from the School Daze soundtrack?! Spike Lee’s got a big ole butt, oh yeah!

2. Canned Heat by Jamiroquai gets double movie credit for being in both Center Stage AND Napoleon Dynamite.

3. You Can’t Stop the Beat has about 3 different endings and just when you think it’s over, you realize YOU CAN’T STOP this song!

4. DJ U.N.I.T.Y. knows all the words to Jai Ho and she gets the BIGGEST smile on her face while she’s singing it. It’s pretty much the best.

And the award for Most Relentless Playlist goes to… DJ FLAMING CHEESE!

Modesty, thy name is U.N.I.T.Y.

DJ U.N.I.T.Y  3 days before her Wednesday night DJ session: “I don’t have a single song on my playlist yet- I don’t know what to do!”

DJ U.N.I.T.Y. right before we started her playlist Wednesday night: “This playlist is a little…scatterbrained…I just couldn’t  focus on it!”

DJ U.N.I.T.Y.’s playlist:

Ooh la la! Fancy border, den mama!

Liar. Such a liar. I don’t know if it was her plan to be all like “Oh no, my playlist is so  bad. I just made this last night in my sleep or something…sigh.” and then slap us in the face with her non-stop booty assault, but if it was…it worked! I moved/shook/dropped/got so bodied that I couldn’t even work out the next day! I swear, DJ U.N.I.T.Y. downplayed that s*** so much and then turned the lights off, handed us these conversation hearts,

and none of us even had time to look back and see what had hit us until the lights came up, we were covered in sweat, and more out of breath than we get ogling Ryan Gosling tumblrs. If I had to make a visual reference as to what happened that night, it would look something like this:

That room was most definitely at critical body-shaking mass at every minute of that hour. And this mix was a special one- DJ U.N.I.T.Y dedicated it to her mom, who she unfortunately lost earlier in her life. She inherited her love of dance from her, and I know her mom would be proud of that tribute.

U.N.I.T.Y., you’ve definitely got some tricks up your sleeve. And next to your always-stellar playlists, this is the newest one I’m excited about!

Love Rollercoaster

Sometimes, a DDPP playlist is just a bunch of really cool dance music put together. And other times, like on Wednesday night, it takes you on a journey. DJ Chelles Belles served up an aural movie of epic love-story proportions. As she explained it before the dancing, it was a classic story of a breakup, the aftermath, the getting back of grooves…and then everything that happens after that groove comes back. And I do mean EVERYTHING. Chelles Belles had us chuckling up a storm with the curve balls she threw into her classic love story. Since there were clearly no visuals on Wednesday night, I’d like to offer up a little pictorial companion to the story; think of these as the bonus features.

Yep, that pretty much sums it up. I can only imagine that DJ Chelles Belles had that wedding video in mind when she added that song to her playlist. And if not, you’re all welcome. Damned if that video doesn’t make me cry like a little baby every time.

Chelles Belles, thanks for the early valentine! Any love story that involves shoop-ing, Saturday Night Live, and a trip to the love shack is one that I can get behind!

Dj Arsen said KNOCK YOU OUT!

Every time at DDPP, it brings me to  near break downs of excitement & tears of JOY!  We can all relate to Miss Bell on this & we love DDPP all the more for it.  Dj Arsen was no exception to bringing the crowd to panic attack levels…she SLAYED us with her KILLA mix….serious FIRE BURNING on the DANCE Floor went down.

 

Want to talk about getting T.K.O.ed on the dance floor.  It was a feeling of complete & utter sweaty defeat as dj Arsen lit up the dance floor with a mix that would not quit.  She said it was a mix of her growing up music & man did it ever bring back a flood of memories.  She definitely had the RIGHT STUFF (check out the sweet moves below):

Record Breaking News!

This Wednesday we filled our humble dance space with 39 dancin’ women!!!  A record for the DDPP books!  I loved looking around feeling overcome with joy at all of the unencumbered moves happening in every square inch of the room!!  The vibe was set by DJ Angry Bird and she kept the hits churning out non-stop!!  You know you’ve had a successful DDPP when the mirrors steam up!!  Congratulations on a record breaking class and an awesome set of tunes!!  Mick Jagger and his notorious moves were NO MATCH for DJ Angry Bird!!
