Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Poetry is open for interpretation and everything but clearly, Dylan Thomas is talking about Summer, right? Because you guys, it’s still Summer! For one more week! What’s with all “Autumn love” hashtags already?
We get it. Fall is cool, both meteorologically and for cozy sweaters. And yes, September is the back-to-school season, leading many, if not most, to downshift immediately into autumnal moods. But wow, how quickly we forget our favorite friend Summer! The Tuesday after Labor Day hits and Summer is dropped like a smartphone in a toilet. The thermostat is still hovering around 80 degrees and people are instagramming their PSLs and posting quotes about crunching leaves.
Listen, we LOVE Fall…it’s the tried-and-true friend that you rarely see but always fall right back into an easy banter with. It’s warm socks from the dryer and purring kittens on your lap. It’s new books and old bookstores, the calming smell of toast and warm beds. But sheesh, let’s not forget Summer so fast! The onslaught of pumpkin-spice everything is inevitable so why not savor the last sips of summer?
This corgi puppy is all of us in this final week of summer: Screw you pumpkins!
Thankfully, we have DJ U.N.I.T.Y. to bring us back from the brink of autumnal amnesia. DJ UN.I.T.Y. is on an honorable, if uphill, mission: To recognize that calendarally (and let’s face it, Chicago-weatherly) speaking, IT’S NOT FALL YET!
As our Den Mama Emeritus and overall Wonder Woman, DJ U.N.I.T.Y. remind us to rage, rage against the pumpkins, if even for one more week!
Check out DJ U.N.I.T.Y’s swan song for the Summer and please, give Summer the love and respect it deserves!
