Starting the Year Off Right With DJ Ballando

It’s good that the first Wednesday of 2019 was so early. Jan 2nd! After spending New Years Day huddled at home, having DDPP fall so quickly after a holiday forced us to start the year off with a healthy habit: shaking our booties. Thanks, DJ Ballando, for starting this year off with your sweet, sweet jams! Here’s to 52 weeks of dancing dancing and partying partying!

DJ Crunchberry, Captain of the Dance Floor

What’s your favorite cereal? We think we might know DJ Crunchberry’s, who gave us something to chomp on Wednesay (8/15) with a bowl of sweet dance jamz.

Oh Captain, My Captain! Thanks, DJ Crunchberry for a grand ol’ time with this confection of fortified hits that took us through the hour. We loved every minute of it, sailing us right to a dance party that was out of this world!

Munch on these tunes!

Party Like It’s 2011

MC Escher here. I almost melted today, and that was before I even got to DDPP. It was so hot, and today’s date being 7/11 means that it was Free Slurpee Day! But the line was too long, so I didn’t get my delicious beverage. I did, however, decide to honor today being the 11th by digging out a mix I made from 2011. Get it, as in, 2011? (Because we all know the joke is extra hilarious when you have to explain it, I know, I know. Also: insert joke about Eleven from Stranger Things here.) The playlist was full of mash-ups and Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell (remember how that was like, THE JAM???) and other things that I didn’t realize I was nostalgic for.

And oh yeah, sorry about the ridiculous 5 minute jam of a British guy detailing the history of hip hop with a banjolele. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

In 2011, that is.

The playlist from tonight is below, and underneath that is a Spotify playlist I’m calling “7/11/18 MC Escher – A Partial Playlist” on account of the fact that a mess o’ that stuff I played tonight wasn’t on Spotify.

xoxo, MC Escher

“NO Theme” From DJ Rapsputin

To theme or not to theme?

What if the theme is all the songs that didn’t fit a theme? MIND. BLOWN. I have to say that I did feel a general theme on this mix of things to worship. Lizzo asked us to worship her. We sang about money and Gucci Coochi and Dying for Prince and ooooh DJ Rapsputin, I LOVED it. Come back soon.

DJ Churro Applecup Sweetens the Deal

giphyThank you, DJ Churro Applecup, for curating a kick butt birthday playlist for us to jam out to last Wednesday, even though you were unable to join us for your special day. Our hearts were/are with you as you deal with some medical things that made getting to DDPP a challenge. So we danced to your mix for you and enjoyed the music that brings you joy. What was perfect about the atmosphere the playlist created was that it really felt like a real birthday party! And in fact, it happened to actually be another dancer’s birthday that day too. She brought a bunch of her friends to dance with her, so clearly, this past Wednesday was a day to celebrate another year of revolving around our sun. So thank you, DJ Churro Applecup, for being the best birthday DJ a group o’gals could ask for. We wish you you a speedy recovery, as well as a great new year!

Hear/here them birthday jamz!

DJ Khaleesi Right On the Money

giphy (1)

Before class DJ Khaleesi told us that when she looked at the songs she selected for tonight (Wed, 3/28), she realized a lot of the songs were about dumping boys and makin’ money. And those jam$ gave us more bang for our buck! Blasting beats, big 80s synths, Beck, Beyoncé, even some Bowie — we’re talking beaucoup de beats.

Talk about a party that makes you feel like a million bucks!

Sweating on that floor, DJ Khaleesi gave us a run for our money! But it was worth every cent.

After working out that hard, we were all CASHED and went home with a endorphin-fueled high!

Enjoy shaking your assets to this playlist!

DJ Needle Sewed Up Her DDPP Debut!

In many ways, dancing to a brand new DJ’s playlist is like going on a great first date.

Your anxiety that things might get weird is WAY overshadowed by your feeling that things are going to go awesome.

You find yourself learning about yourself through your visceral reactions to a new, intense energy in your life.

And once you find the thing you undeniably have in common (THE DANCE), it’s nearly impossible to stop the momentum…of true love.

DJ Needle made her debut at DDPP on Sunday, and we felt all the feels. She offered up an incredible playlist in honor of her badass bestie, DJ Murder Kitten (who created a playlist for Needle earlier this year!) We are huge fans of friendship, especially when we benefit from such friendships by getting…not one…but TWO dope playlists out of it.

Long live this friendship, and the butterflies we get listening to these ladies spin!

Joy, brought! with DJ Murder Kitten on 3/18

Murder Kitten, Murder Kitten! When she’s at the wheel, we all benefit! Her thoughtful mixes soothe both our dance floor flail requirements and our psyches, and keep us fulfilled, while also wanting more!  The theme of this mix was ‘songs that bring joy’. The idea is simple and organic, and will always be unique. Thankfully, she knows what also will bring us all joy, as we danced to an unexpected and delightful sampling. We are lucky our DDPP DJs like to call the shots, and DJ Murder Kitten surely kills it!
